Welcome to the "ready, set, go...abroad!" website! This website has mainly been designed for students studying Modern Foreign Languages at Grade 3&4 and Grade 4 at the School of Languages and Applied Linguistics at the University of Portsmouth (UK), although the activities can also be adapted in other teaching and learning contexts.
This website has been designed to help students prepare for their third year abroad, through a variety of resources and activities, all revolving around the theme of the Year Abroad.
Whether you have chosen to go on a study placement (Erasmus programme), to do a work placement or an English language assistantship via the British Council, the various activities will allow you to acquire some very useful vocabulary, to revise some grammatical points, to develop your language skills and also to boost your intercultural awareness, in preparation for your period abroad.
The activities you will find on this website touch on various themes, including: studying abroad, the Erasmus programme, the education system in Germany, Spain, France and Italy, the centres which are partners with the University of Portsmouth, testimonies from native speakers and student accommodation. You will work on authentic documents, including articles and news reports, videos recorded with native speakers and various types of quizzes. The activities will also allow you to work on your listening, speaking, writing and reading skills. These activities will either be done in class or on a distance-learning basis.
At the end, you will be required to carry out a task, which involves the recording of a video on the theme of the year abroad with Erasmus students studying at the University of Portsmouth. This task will be assessed and will constitute the second task of your Portfolio.
To start, simply click on the language(s) you study in the bar menu but first, you may want to have a quick look at the video below!
